Dato' S Sothinathan is the Founding Partner of Messrs Sothi Bala & Associates

Before entering legal practice in 2010, Dato' S Sothinathan served as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and also was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health, both of which are government appointments for being the elected Member of Parliament of Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. His experience in the administrative and civil service of the Malaysian government spanned almost 10 years beginning from years 1999.

 

Dato' S Sothinathan began his early career as an Executive Secretary with Koperasi Pekerja Jaya Berhad and set his corporate field experience for a short stint before becoming the Political Secretary to the Minister of Works, the late Tun Samy Vellu.

 

Dato' S Sothinathan who has a double degree (qualifications), both in Economics and Law, subsequently entered into legal practice in the year 2010 after retiring from active mainstream politics. His service as Deputy Minister and Parliamentary Secretary made him gain insight into legislation drafting and promulgations of enactments as a lawyer himself.

 

Throughout his career, Dato' S Sothinathan has gained extensive legal exposure working in the Malaysian cabinet and at the ministry level where he handled man complex legal issues comprising government policies, legislation drafting, the tabling of consultative papers, and negotiation of cross-border treaties representing the Malaysian government.

 

Besides being in politics and government service, Dato' S Sothinathanhas also handled many private dealings from commercial perspectives during his tenure as Project Consultant with Eurotex Sdn Bhd, where he has been involved extensively in commercial contracts and negotiation, mainly for resolving legal issues.

 

Presently, Dato' S Sothinathan handles corporate advisory assignments for the firm's Clients and relatively provides consultancy on administrative law and civil litigation involving land law disputes and boardroom tussles.
